Putting on the RIFF!

This week’s hip hop jazz composition is entitled, “Putting on the RIFF!” The word “RIFF;” is an acronym that means, RADIO INDIE FREE FORM, and means that the radio station that is playing music is using a free form format made up of Independent artists. I am an independent artist, as are other familiar artists, such as Ingrid SmithTiffany GowJames Harrison Bacon, and many others who are now frequently heard on the Internet stations hosted by Dawn Martinez and by Philippe E. Maille.

However, Dawn Martinez has specifically dedicated her new station to encompass more than just the music. During a recent interview, she told us about her station:
“RIFF—A Solar Powered Internet Radio Station that streams the glitz and glamour of Independent Indie Artists Internationally. RIFF’s mission is to promote, broadcast, educate, and build fan base for the artists of the Indie rhythmic beat, while using fewer commercials. Over thirty genre’s garnish the Internet Airwaves as Independent Music expresses itself freely. Radio Indie FreeForm is a non-profit organization blending together with Ahames.org Charity, and like-minded people.”

Thank you, Dawn for such a super concept! So, in honor of the RIFF movement, I give you, “Putting on the RIFF!” I arranged, mixed and play Alto Sax, and the Passion HiFi provided the backing.

Have a listen to Putting On The RIFF by Jack Scannell where the marvelous artist showcases his snazzy music.

Who is a true friend?

In my own experience and modest understanding of such friendships, a true friend, who is worth living for, is a friend, who must be able to call on my actions if they are hurtful or thoughtless.

He/she must be able to point toward my sense of self-responsibility and not support me blindly.

My true friend must always stand up for the truth, and not stand up for my irrationality out of a sense of obligation in the name of “friendship”.

A true friend to me is one, who can show me my error, without fearing the guilt-trip I might burden him/her with for not standing by “me” regardless.

For you see, standing up for the truth and not condoning my irrational, illogical behavior, does not mean he/she does not stand by me. On the contrary, he/she, does, more than ever, because they are fearless in their love for me, unconditional in their trust in me, and have confidence in my ability to see reason and come into awareness and insight through right action and thought, eventually.

And during this process, they hold the space for me, instead of turning away from me.

Such is a true friend I can personally trust. Such is a friend, worth living for and learning from, in turn being a true friend myself.

Relationships are all about helping each other grow, not keeping each other stagnated in blind love and faith without question.

Just sharing for the joy of sharing. Please share your thoughts too as and when guided.

Good morning fans and friends with Radio Indie FreeForm, I am back …. sounds familiar? It became my slogan lately, we will start a blog every week with Piyali Ganguly and myself to shed a little light into the confusing world of music, it’s bureaucracy and it’s spiritual value …I am making it as easy as possible to give some information to help all of us…. like the old saying, we are all sitting in the same boat. I have been talking, texting and emailing with so many friends in the last couple of weeks, and one of the main issues which came up is the tiredness of using facebook. Using facebook as a band, a musician, a singer/songwriter, yes and as a radio station …I am constantly making research … and here are a couple of tips ..

HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY USE YOUR FAN PAGE ON FACEBOOK !

It’s not easy, so hold on …many people would not admit that they really don’t know much about it. So let me share some of the information I gathered, I make it as simple as possible ..

1. Like your own page ….you say WHAT ? well, if you want to see it in your news-feed with your friends, you have to like your own page …

2. Ask your twitter fans at least once a week to follow your fb fan page.

3. VERY IMPORTANT !!!!!!
#hashtag , hashtag …. hashtag …..all your posts with your fb name and your social media accounts …examples:
#DawnMartinez #PiyaliGanguly #eclipsethesongmaker #radioindiefreeform,, if you click on the hashtag, you have immediate access, not only that …. everything comes up by clicking on hashtag, posts, photos ect ect …

4. Put your facebook URL on your business card and flyers.

5. Put a link on your personal fb page, right underneath, your profile picture

6. Put a tag on your youtube videos.

7. Update your cover photo, at least once a month or more often.

8.Ask your friends to like your fan page (but not too often)

9. Your fanpage is your business, no personal tragic information, share only positive thoughts … Have a wonderful weekend!
